Doorshop Ltd (“The Door Shop”, “we”, “us” or “our”) takes the privacy of everyone who visits our website or buys from us seriously. This Privacy Policy sets out what personal information we collect, why we collect it, how we use and protect it, who we share it with, and the rights you have over it.
This Policy applies to our website at doorshopltd.com, to our showroom and yard at Southern Bypass, Rungiri, and to the enquiries and orders we handle by phone, WhatsApp and email. By using our website or placing an order with us, you confirm that you have read and understood this Policy.
This Policy does not cover the practices of other companies or websites we do not control, including any third-party site you reach through a link on our pages.
Who We Are
The Door Shop is a door retailer operating in Kenya. For the purposes of the Kenya Data Protection Act, 2019, we are the data controller for the personal information described in this Policy. Our contact details are at the end of this page.
Information Collected Automatically
When you browse our website, our servers and analytics tools may record technical information sent by your browser. This can include your IP address, browser type and version, operating system, device type, the pages you viewed, the page that referred you, the time and date of your visit, and how long you stayed.
This information helps us understand how the website is being used, fix faults and detect misuse. On its own it does not identify you personally.
Information You Give Us
You can browse our catalogue without telling us who you are. To request a quote, book a site measurement, place an order or open an account, we will ask for some or all of the following:
- your name;
- your phone number and WhatsApp number;
- your email address;
- the delivery or site address, and directions to it;
- billing details and a record of your transaction;
- door measurements, specifications and other project details you choose to share;
- your account username and password, where you create an account;
- any correspondence you send us.
You are free to withhold this information, but we may then be unable to quote, deliver or install.
How We Collect Information
We collect personal information:
- directly from you — through our website forms, over the phone, on WhatsApp, by email, or in person at our showroom;
- automatically — through cookies and analytics tools when you use our website;
- from third parties in limited cases — for example from payment processors confirming a transaction, or from a contractor or architect placing an order on your behalf.
Why We Use Your Information
We use personal information to:
- prepare quotations and respond to enquiries;
- process, confirm and fulfil your order;
- arrange delivery, site measurement and installation;
- handle payments and issue invoices and receipts;
- provide after-sales support and manage warranty claims;
- keep you updated on the progress of your order;
- improve our products, our website and the way we serve customers;
- send you offers and updates, where you have asked to receive them;
- meet our tax, accounting and other legal obligations;
- prevent fraud and protect our business and our customers.
Our lawful bases for processing are your consent, the performance of a contract with you, compliance with a legal obligation, and our legitimate interests in running and improving the business.
Marketing Messages
We will only send you marketing messages by email, SMS or WhatsApp if you have asked us to. Every marketing email carries an unsubscribe link, and you can ask us to stop at any time by replying STOP or contacting us directly. Messages about an order you have already placed — dispatch notices, delivery arrangements, invoices — are not marketing and will still be sent.
Cookies
Our website uses cookies and similar technologies to keep your shopping basket working, remember your preferences, and measure how the site is used. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings, though some parts of the site may not work properly if you do.
Analytics
We use third-party analytics services, such as Google Analytics, to understand which pages are visited and how people move through the site. These tools generally report data in aggregate and are not used by us to identify individual visitors.
Advertising
We may work with advertising services, including Google Ads and its remarketing features, to show our doors to people who have visited our website. These services may use cookies and device identifiers to build a picture of your interests across websites.
You can control this at any time:
- adjust how Google uses your data for ads at myadcenter.google.com;
- opt out of interest-based advertising from participating companies at youronlinechoices.com or optout.aboutads.info;
- change the ad and tracking settings on your browser or device.
Who We Share Information With
We share personal information only where it is necessary, and only with parties who are required to protect it. These may include:
- transporters, couriers and our own delivery team;
- installation and fitting teams working on our behalf;
- payment processors and mobile money providers;
- our website host and IT support providers;
- analytics and advertising providers;
- our accountants, auditors and legal advisers;
- government authorities, where we are required by law to disclose.
We do not sell or rent your personal information to anyone.
If The Door Shop is ever sold, merged or restructured, customer information may pass to the new owner as part of that transaction, subject to the protections in this Policy.
Payment Information
Payments are handled by trusted third-party processors and mobile money providers. Card details are encrypted and processed under PCI-DSS standards. Doorshop Ltd, does not store full card numbers on its systems. Payment providers handle your information under their own privacy policies.
Transfers Outside Kenya
Some of the services we use — website hosting, email and analytics, for example — may store data on servers outside Kenya. Where this happens, we take reasonable steps to ensure your information stays protected to the standard required by Kenyan law.
How Long We Keep Information
We keep personal information only as long as we need it for the purposes set out above, or for as long as the law requires. Order and invoice records are held for the period required by Kenyan tax law. Quotation enquiries that do not lead to an order are reviewed and cleared periodically. Marketing consents are kept until you withdraw them.
Your Rights
Under the Kenya Data Protection Act, 2019 you have the right to:
- be told how your personal information is being used;
- access the personal information we hold about you;
- have inaccurate or incomplete information corrected;
- ask us to delete information we no longer have a reason to keep;
- object to or restrict certain processing;
- withdraw consent where our processing relies on it;
- receive a copy of your information in a portable format.
To exercise any of these rights, contact us using the details below. We will respond within the period set by law. We may ask you to confirm your identity first, to make sure we do not release information to the wrong person.
If you are not satisfied with how we have handled your request, you may lodge a complaint with the Office of the Data Protection Commissioner of Kenya.
We recognise that some visitors reach our website from other countries. Where other privacy frameworks apply to those visitors, we aim to handle their information in line with internationally recognised privacy principles. This does not mean The Door Shop is established in, or regulated by, the authorities of those regions.
Children
Our website and products are intended for adults. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If you believe a child has given us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
Keeping Your Information Secure
We use reasonable administrative, technical and physical measures to protect personal information against loss, misuse and unauthorised access. No system is completely secure, however, and we cannot guarantee absolute security of information transmitted over the internet.
If There Is a Data Breach
Should a breach occur that is likely to put your rights at risk, we will investigate promptly, take steps to contain it, and notify you and the Office of the Data Protection Commissioner as required by the Kenya Data Protection Act, 2019.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Policy from time to time. Any revised version will be posted on this page with a new “last updated” date. Continuing to use our website after a change means you accept the updated Policy.
